For The Armory Show 2009, PKM GALLERY is pleased to present the work of three artists, Robert Boyd(1969), Sangbin IM(1976), and Sangnam Lee(1963).
Sangbin IM's photography works reveal his training and passion in painting in their expression of a layered construction. His new works based on historical photographs question the assumed integrity and neutrality of photography. Process is also key to appreciating Sangnam Lee's geometric abstract paintings. While the paintings appear effortless they are in fact created through a labor intensive process incorporating Western painting techniques with traditional Korean painting medium. Photography and video by Robert Boyd from his critically acclaimed series Xanadu will also be exhibited. Xanadu is a montage that condenses archival footage of Doomsday cults, iconic political figures, and global fundamentalist movements into short image bites set to popular dance music as a series of MTV-style music videos. Boyd's newest project Tomorrow People (2008) recently debuted in a solo presentation at New York's P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center.
