2001년 문을 연 PKM 갤러리는 현대미술의 흐름을 첨예하게 담아내는 국내외 유수 작가들의 전시 프로그램을 일관되게 운영해왔다. 단색화 거장 윤형근, 정창섭, 서승원과 유영국, 권진규, 구정아, 코디최, 이상남 등 한국 화단을 대표하는 작가들의 전시를 개최하는 동시에 존 발데사리, 올라퍼 엘리아슨, 댄 플래빈, 카스텐 홀러, 클래스 올덴버그 & 코셰 반 브루겐 등 해외 저명 작가들을 국내에 적극 소개하였다. 또한 젊은 작가들의 인큐베이터로서 백현진, 구현모, 이원우, 토비 지글러, 브렌트 웨든, 헤르난 바스 등의 작품전을 기획하고, 이들이 차세대 미술 주자로 성장할 수 있도록 기여했다.

PKM 갤러리는 2004년 한국 화랑 최초로 프리즈 아트 페어에 초청되어 한국 현대미술이 세계 미술시장의 중심에 진출하는 데 주요한 역할을 했다. 이후 아트 바젤, 피악, 아모리 쇼, 엑스포 시카고 등 명망 있는 국제 아트 페어에 꾸준히 진출함으로써 근·현대를 망라하는 수준 높은 국내외 작가의 작품들을 글로벌 컬렉터와 미술관계자들에게 소개하고, 한국 미술이 국제 무대에서 탁립하는 데 이바지하였다.

PKM 갤러리는 2001년 종로구 화동의 PKM 갤러리 첫 개관, 2006년 중국 북경의 PKM 베이징 신설, 2008년 강남구 청담동의 PKM 트리니티 갤러리 개관, 2010년 종로구 북촌의 바틀비 비클 & 뫼르소와의 협업에 이어 창립 14주년을 맞이한 2015년 4월, 전통과 현대가 공존하는 유서 깊은 삼청동 지역으로 통합 이전 개관하였다. PKM 본관은 총 지상 2층, 지하 2층 규모로 최대 5.5m의 천장고를 갖춘 전시장을 보유하고 있으며, 2018년 추가 설립된 PKM+ 별관은 지상 1층, 지하 1층으로 부티크한 공간이 특징이다. 연면적 893 제곱미터, 순 전시 면적 397 제곱미터의 대규모 화랑으로 거듭난 PKM 갤러리는 앞으로도 폭넓고 실험적인 활동을 통하여 동시대 미술 현장의 새로운 패러다임을 이끌어 나갈 것이다.

Since its opening in 2001, PKM Gallery has been consistently presenting exhibitions of both Korean and international artists whose artworks keenly reflect the trends of contemporary art. The gallery not only exhibited the works of Yun Hyong-keun, Chung Chang-Sup, and Suh Seung-Won, the masters of Dansaekhwa, along with the works of leading figures in Korean contemporary art such as Yoo Youngkuk, Kwon Jin Kyu, Koo Jeong A, Cody Choi, and Sang Nam Lee, but also succeeded in introducing renowned international artists such as John Baldessari, Olafur Eliasson, Dan Flavin, Carsten Holler, and Claes Oldenburg & Coosge van Bruggen to the Korean audience. As an incubator for emerging young artists, PKM Gallery has been organizing exhibitions of Bek Hyunjin, Koo Hyunmo, Wonwoo Lee, Toby Ziegler, Brent Wadden, and Hernan Bas to encourage their growth as leading artists of the next generation.

PKM gallery, the first amongst the Korean galleries invited to participate in the Frieze Art fair in 2004, played a major role in advancing Korean contemporary art to the global art market. PKM Gallery continuously exhibited in prestigious international art fairs including Art Basel, FIAC, Armory Show, and Expo Chicago and introduced works of Korean and international artists to global collectors and related art professionals, thus contributing to the global recognition of Korean art.

PKM Gallery was founded in Hwa-dong, Jongno-gu in 2001. In 2006, PKM Gallery launched a branch in Beijing, China, then opened PKM Trinity in Cheongdam-dong in 2008. For several years, PKM Gallery has been collaborating with Bartleby & Meursault located in Bukchon, Jongno-gu. In the April of 2014, in commemoration of its 14th anniversary, PKM Gallery was relocated to Samcheong-dong, a district where tradition and modernity coexist. PKM’s spectacular architecture includes a main building with maximum height of 5.5 meters that is comprised of two upper stories and a two-story basement. PKM+, an annex built in 2018, has one upper story and a basement floor and is equipped with a boutique-like gallery space. PKM Gallery, now providing 893 square meters of total gross area and 397 square meters of exhibition space, will continue to strive for opening up a new paradigm in the contemporary art world with its extensive and experimental activities.
