‘동등성’이라는 화두를 예술을 통해 이끌어내며, 도처에 산재한 수직의 위계 구조를 유연하게 허무는 작업을 지속해온 홍영인 작가의 작품을 영국 아놀피니 미술관의 《Threads: Breathing stories into materials》에서 만나볼 수 있습니다.
‘재료에 이야기를 불어넣는다’를 주제로 구성된 본 기획전은 보이거나 보이지 않는 것들을 탐구하며 이전의 전통과 연결되는 스토리텔링의 힘을 직물로써 구현하는 작품들을 선보입니다.
본 전시에서는 홍영인은 1970-1980년대 한국의 섬유공장에서 일했던 여공들의 말을 인용하여 뒤집히거나 파편화된 단어와 문장들을 얽은 신작 <Revoiced>를 선보이며, 남성 중심의 거대 서사에 가려져 있던 여성 노동자들의 서사를 시적으로 조명함과 동시에 환원적 역사 쓰기로부터 해방을 시도합니다. 전시는 10월 1일까지.
Young In Hong, who has been exploring the theme of ‘equality’ in the form of art and continued to rearrange the hierarchical order of the world, presents her work in the exhibition Threads: Breathing stories into materials by Arnolifini Gallery of UK.
This special exhibition, composed works related to the phrase Breathing stories into materials, displays art works which are made by exploring both of the visible and invisible one, and revealing the storytelling power of textile to connect with past traditions.
In the exhibition, Young In Hong presents new work, Revoiced, which will draw upon the untold stories of female former textile factory workers in South Korea in the 1960s and 1970s with inverted or fragmented words and sentence. She highlights the narrative related to female former’s story veiled with big-scaled male centered narrative, attempt to release them from reductive writing of history. Threads: Breathing stories into materials runs until Oct. 1 st.
